"God Far and Near" is the theme of worship on Feb. 28. Abram receives God's promise (Genesis 15: 5, 6), "Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them … So shall your descendants be." Sunday's worship time together will stretch our understanding of God who spans the heavens and "counts us in" to receive what Jesus Christ has accomplished on our behalf: life, here and forever!
In the Gospel reading for Feb 28 (The Second Sunday in Lent), Jesus chides, "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, … How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings … !" In far-reaching ways, God includes us as benefactors of God's far-reaching grace even at the times we are most resistant to receiving God's embrace offered us in Jesus Christ.
